Rays Deal Joey Wendle to The Marlins
Third baseman Joey Wendle was just finding a home in Tampa. The fans accepted him and I for one always looked forward to seeing him play. Now I will have to go to Miami to see him play as the Rays traded Wendle to the Marlins for their #21 prospect Kameron Misner.
Misner batted .253 in the minors in 2021 and shows that he has the speed on the bases with 44 extra-base hits and 26 steals. The question is where center fielder Misner will end up being with with a loaded outfield. I am certain he will be in the minors for another year, probably Double-A, before the Rays decide what is going to happen with him.
Dealing Wendle did create an open spot on the 40-man roster to allow the rays to officialy sign Corey Kluber to a 1 year deal worth $8 million. A veteran arm like Kluber in the rotation will provide the leadership the Rays really need in their starting rotation.
Wendle will definitely have an impact with the Marlins, after coming off a great year where he earned his first All-Star selection.
