Tampa Bay Coronovirus Entertainment Update
With the reality and scare of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) we are seeing a slew of closings, cancellations, postponements and other news. I will share updates to the best of my knowledge of the entertainment activities in the Tampa Bay Area and places in Orlando that fall in my coverage. Bookmark this page as I will update it as needed.
Tampa Bay Theme Parks
Busch Gardens: Busch Gardens will be closing from March 16th through the end of the month.
Adventure Island: Adventure Island will be closing from March 16th through the end of the month.
Zoo Tampa: ZooTampa will be closed from March 16th through Sunday. March 29th.
Dinosaur World: Dinosaur World will only allow up to 250 people in the park at any given time. They will also be closing the Fossil Dig and giving children ages 3-12 a bag of three fossils to take home instead of the hands on activity.
MOSI: MOSI will be closed from March 16th through March 29th.
The Florida Aquarium: The Florida Aquarium is closed through March 29th.
Glazers Childrens Museum: The Children’s Museum will be closed through March 29th.
Clearwater Aquarium: The Clearwater Aquarium is tentatively scheduled to re-open to the public on March 27th.
SPORTS
NCAA: The NCAA has cancelled all sports including the March Madness Tournament. This also includes hockey, softball, baseball, and lacrosse. This includes USF, UCF, and the Gators.
MLB: All spring training games have been suspended and the start of the season has been delayed by at least 2 weeks. This is not surprising since Florida is a spring training hub and cases have popped up in the Bradenton and Tampa area. This impacts the Tampa Bay Rays
NBA: The NBA has suspended it’s season “until further notice” after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz has been found positive of the CV.
NHL: The NHL has temporarily suspended their season with three weeks left to the playoffs, but they hope to resume in the future. This impacts the Tampa Bay Lightning
NFL: The NFL has “no plans to move the start of the league year” at this time.
XFL: Announced the XFL will not be playing any regular season games. This impacts the Tampa Bay Vipers.
MLS: Play is to be suspended immediately for a minimum of 30 days. This impacts the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
WRESTLEMANIA: Wrestlemania 36 is cancelled at Raymond James Stadium. The WWE is planning on holding it at the Orlando Performance Center on April 5th to no audience and showing it via pay per view.
CONCERTS
STRAZ CENTER: The Straz center is suspending all performances, classes, and events effective immediately. No date is posted as to when operations will resume, but the website only shows cancellations through April 18th. This is effecting popular musicals like Miss Saigon, Pirates of the Penzance and Jersey Boys.
CHER AT AMALIE ARENA: Mar 26th Postponed to a future date.
YES AT RUTH ECKERD HALL: Mar 22nd Yes has cancelled, but Alan Parsons Project will go on with a replacement act.
KENNY CHESNEY AT RAYMOND JAMES: May 9th Postponed to a future date.
ORLANDO THEME PARKS
DISNEY: Disney Orlando Theme Parks will be suspending operations starting March 16th through the end of March. Disneyland parks in California has suspended operations until Mar 30th.
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS: Universal Studios Theme Parks will be suspending operations starting March 16th through the end of March. Universal Studios Hollywood has suspended operations through Mar 28th, but the Orlando parks are continuing operations at this time. Word on twitter is that Universal is refunding park tickets and hotel reservations.
SEA WORLD ORLANDO: Sea World is closed from March 16th through March 29th.
LEGOLAND FLORIDA: Legoland Florida will be closed from March 16th through March 31st.
