Sarasota Medieval Fair Arrives With Joan Of Arc
Here Ye! Here Ye! The Sarasota Medieval Fair is back!!! The 14th annual Sarasota Medieval Fair returns to Ringling Woods this year with the full helping of entertainment, crafts, games, rides, and food that we have grown accustomed to year after year. This year we delve into the world of Joan of Arc.
Did I mention Jousting? YES!! Jousting is returning to the fair this year with New Riders of the Golden Age. New Riders has been jousting since 1982. The use of Belgian, Percheron, Shire, and Clydesdale horses and full suits of period-designed tilting armor differentiates the New Riders of the Golden Age from groups and organizations presenting staged theatrical medieval jousts. The use of period equipment allows the New Riders to engage in an authentic full contact joust, and the great horses add an unmatchable sense of power and presence to the joust.
Of course there will be entertainment. The fair will be here for four weekends and the entertainment will not necessarily be the same each weekend. It is great you can come multiple times and see different acts each weekend.
On Nov 9-10 you can see Kellyn Celtic Arts Irish Dance as well as The Irish Dance Academy of Sarasota . On Nov 16-17 a new act Broon will be premiering as well as the returning act of Acrobellum.
The weekend of Nov. 23-24 has Ronin Taiko premiering and a brand new act, Sirena, The Sirens. The final weekend Nov 30- Dec 1 will close out with the St. Nikolaus Celebration. Also returning for all weekends are favorites such as Cast in Bronze, Wheel of Death, and Washing Well Wenches.
Merchants from all over will be there with their crafts and trades to sell and demonstrate to the fair goers. Fortune tellers are sure to be there to give you insight to your future. What fair is without the food and that enormous turkey leg we always want to eat while walking around. Yes, that will be back as well as well as true Scottish foods.
Other than jousting, must we not forget the human chess match. gather round the oversized chess board and watch the participants battle it out until the King is taken. This has always been a favorite of mine and I always look forward to the skills brought forth to the new years battle.
